Took the plunge and decided to clear it all....it was a pest ...the steps are now exposed and the border crying out for a compact low growing shrub.!
The large Cistus will spread down more quite quickly.

Satisfying, isn't it? My OH never understands my own urge to 'get rid of things'... I'm eyeing up a veronica Georgia Blue which needs curbing.
