Although this plant has been known since 1931, it was only named as a separate species fifty years later!

3d - yes, roscoeas are bulbs in the ginger family. Hardy but very late into growth, not appearing until at least June

I have a small showing, hardly a clump yet, think it must be my Red Gurkha.

That's great Sue. I have some more roscoea peeping above the soil and hope my 'Red Gurkha' is among them

Love Roscoea, such distinctive flowers, great colour on this one. Always so late to emerge thro the ground.
