Winter knocking the doors :)

Winter knocking the doors :)

The day before yesterday we had a significant drop in temperature. During the night the thermometers hit -2ºC. The result was cold and frost. This year I managed to save Tibouchina mutabilis, they burned lavender, Andean melon, some hibiscus leaves and other plants.

Oh Aleyna! I don’t envy you having to run around trying to save your plants - it’s that sudden unexpected temperature drop..it catches you out, doesn’t it! Hope you are ok?

Oh, that's tough. Hope the plants are all ok.

Thank you all for your comments.
It was unexpected frost.
But my instinct said to me protect the tibouchina.
It was about to bloom again. We made a plastic tent around and covering the plant.
Now we will have rain untill wednesday.
Then I'll be able to see which other plants was damaged

Such bad luck when frost hits so suddenly ... very glad you managed to save the Tibouchina (we can only grow it under cover in the UK). Sad about the ones you’ve lost though.

As bad as frost is, that is what allows you to grow plants that need it. But your photo does remind me I need to start bringing in wood from my woods so that I am ready for winter. If I wait until fall, then people are more likely to help themselves to what I prepare to bring to the house.

Thank you Sheila, and now we have had rain the last 5 days, all I can do is peer inside the mini tent to see if the buttons are opening.

Wyllie believe it or not these logs are from an eliotis pine that we cut last spring, in October. I can't use them on the wood stove because of the sap. And our fireplace is electronic, we use pellets, it feeds itself.
The logs are dry and I have already offered them free, for two or three people, and no one came to get them.

I've seen the pellet burners, but since I have free wood, I use a salamander with an oven. Mostly faia and eucalyptus. I have eucalyptus that has been drying for over 6 years now, so it is very hard. Maybe you can get rid of those logs if you offer to split them, deliver them, and then stack them. Some people are never satisfied.

Yeah of course :D

Very chilly for you Aleyna...I do hope your Tibouchina has survived ok. I suppose you've had your rain now too.
You have some good wood there, that huge trunk will keep you warm..:)) I have a log burner here for winter, I wouldn't be without it!
Keep warm..
