Clematis Dark Eyes

Janey

By Janey

Clematis Dark Eyes

This is very like Etoile Violette, but has a dark eye, whereas violette has a golden eye, in the bottom right of the photo. When I bought Nubia, it looked to be dark red but turned out deep purple, I do like it very much though..

I seem to have a problem about names right now...roses and clems...:((
This Clem was wrongly labelled tho...and online, this is the one it is, and describes it perfectly..:)

BA: I daren't say it - I counted 41 in my garden, 8 in the greenhouse, 8 of one variety I grew from seed, and now I have succumbed to 4 more from the supermarket 2 days ago.
I need a bigger garden.... or to stop supermarket shopping...

Now you mention it there is a big one down the road, waving at passers-by.

Janey, I looked at this on Taylors website and am now confused! They describe it as having strong red tepals with a dark centre, certainly doesn't look red on yours ...

It looks a much bigger flower than violette. Gorgeous, but I wouldn't call it red. Doesn't look at all like various pictures.

Flippin' 'eck Janey, I've lost all trust in you :-))))

Thanks girls...you two are funny..:)) This Nubia/Niobe was bought at that price Ange, probably from the same place as yours...beginning with R?

I know Shirley and Siris, I was expecting red, and it turned out very dark purple. It may be Niobe, but with either it's just the dark eye that's correct. It is about the same size as violette Siris, some of the flowers have 5 tepals and some 4. Also this year on some of the tepals, they were both purple and green. Watching Monty last week, there was a piece about tepals and sepals and the Clem not making its mind up about which bits were which....crikey, what a conundrum, I can't make my mind up about which one it is, it's like neither anyway, and it can't make its mind up which bits are which....i'll just let it be which and what it wants....its just too much....i'll have to lay down now...:))
Hey Ba, here's a Clem for the funny farm....Somerset was it..:))

I've checked online and it looks certainly like viticella Dark Eyes. Obviously wrongly labelled. I do like it very much though..

Yes Janey, a little lost in Somerset, that way lies madness :-)))

Always likes Suggs Ba, and it'll be like going back to Our House...:))

It really is Shirley, I like the sound of Dark Eyes, mysterious, and that's what it is...
