these pretty things have large emotional significance for me, Kate. My dad brought home one or two pods back in the 1950's, and grew them all the rest of his life... when I got my chance for a garden I made sure I had seed from his poppies. There were singles (then) pinks and white as well as red doubles. natural selection has played it's hand and now I have only the pink and red doubles. A GoY friend from the States sent me seed for a lovely mauve one... will have to post a pic. There's only one of that colour in the whole bed!
Are you growing any this year, Amy?

when they've dropped their last petals I shall dead head..and keep all the pods for next years plants...and see if I can coax another flush. The blooms are always smaller the second time around.

So, they aren’t just very pretty poppies, they have a real personal connection. I can understand why you’d want to keep them thriving and blooming every year. Also the longevity of these over the decades, fantastic. I’m keeping fingers crossed for you with next years blooms.
