Begonia (red) on balcony railings

I think this is the 3rd year these Begonias have flowered for me! I remember that one year I left them in their pots all winter on the balcony, but inside a plastic greenhouse & most survived, Last year I remember taking them out of their pots & saving them in wood shavings in plastic boxes in the coldest cupboard in our flat. They survived very well & by March I was able to take them out & pot them up again. They were already sprouting by that time! Because of this earlier start they also began to flower much earlier!
Nevertheless I think these are Begonias I bought & potted up last year therefore they are probably not the same ones from 3 or 4 years ago.
The trouble with keeping them from one year to another is that the tubers grow in size! Unlike, say Daffodils, these don't form smaller tubers around the mother tuber. I'm not sure at the moment if it is worth the while keeping them over the coming winter for flowering again next year. I will decide in a few months time when they die back for the winter.

There's a lot to keeping them over winter. You couldn't cut them up and have a few plants from the same tuber? I know what you mean though, sometimes it's easier to buy fresh ones..
