Mini-Daff bulbs just bought for balcony railings 19th September 2020

I have planted some shorter varieties as find they seem more attractive than the tall ones. Your selections are looking good.

Thank you, Shirley! They were planted up as planned. I had some a couple of years ago & they did very well so I hope for a repeat performance next spring!

They will look fantastic next Spring, Good idea to get the shorter varieties. I plant the shorter daffs as it gets windy up here sometimes, living on a hill.

That's also why I prefer the minis over the big hybrids as well. Where we live it's like living in "Hurricane Valley"! Our block of flats is situated at the top of a street that leads down to the river - no more than a five minute walk away. There is a slight rise (can't call it a hill) when coming back up from the river. Probably no more than a few metres but that small difference in height maybe what causes the wind to be more prominent here than in other parts of the town.

Balcony, the weather down here near the coast was awful today, strong winds and heavy rain ... :o(

We haven't had it nearly as bad as you, Shirley. we had some showers this morning which meant I was unable to go to the MS Centre for the 2 hours I usually go on Tuesdays. As they are now opening just on the Tuesday it means I will have to wait till next week before going again.

About 4pm this afternoon the sky started to get dark, then darker & I had to turn the lights on about 20 past! Even then it continued to get darker & I was able to see an enormous black cloud moving over us! A little bit scary but nothing came of it! It didn't lose a single drop of rain! It was very low & so black it turned the late afternoon sun into midnight blackness! All the street lights came on as well! We heard a bit of wind but not a drop of water fell from it! By the time it passed the sun had practically set.

I don't like the sound of that at all! Dull and damp here today . . .

We didn't get off Scott free - it's rained here most of the day today but not much really.
