It outgrew a 18" pot and now should do well in ground. Hopefully the rubra part will come back if not this winter, then next..its triggered by cool temps.

Thanks Kate. Its sort of winter now. Chilly temps that just 2 or 3 weeks ago were warm. Amazing how fast you can miss warm weather. Doesn't take me months..a week is all-lol.

Have to agree! I prefer it warmer, despite originally coming from south west Scotland!!!! Saying that, I love to see the seasonal changes. :-)

It’ll be much happier outside. My plant is in a gallon size pot and is 8’ tall. I’ve seen them in the ground 12 or 14 ft. tall here in San Diego.

Its been outdoors all the 21 years. Just in pots. After 1998 killed the original plant..I've put off planting this one. But it fills that gap perfect now.
This is on the edge of record mild lows for a winter. Still a month to go but its been a dream compared to the 1990's.

Oh, I was guessing it was indoors. My plant is in the dining room. It’s going to be a pain to move it outside.

It's been outdoors since I bought it was a wee plant in 1998-1999. My first try was fine from 1991-1998. The the 1998 freeze got it. Every cold spell since has been milder and milder Now its looking like 3 years in a row of no frost. First in my lifetime going back to born in the end of the 50's.
Funny how the year 2000 really did seem to change the whole bay area for tropical plant lovers.

I remember the 1998 freeze. It damaged, but didn’t kill any of my plants.
It’s good you haven’t had a horrible freeze up there.
