Half Dollar for Paul

That's nice to know Paul , I haven't a clue how I came to have it ,I used to collect old pennies I have a folder in which each coin fits into it's allotted space with its age underneath , This Half Dollar must have been given to me in change years ago I kept it because it was different . At the moment I'm collecting 50p coins with Beatrix Potter figures on them ... Thank you for your help ,I'll take good care of the Half Dollar x

My brother has a couple of these, given to him by mum. She said she got hers from dad who got them during the war when the American troops were billeted here. My dad did a coin swap with one chap who liked our money. Not sure how my dad managed that as he was in the Senior service [Royal Navy]. He never referred to it as the navy, whether that was due to him having been in the merchant navy as a young man I am not sure.

Thats interesting Sbg , I can see that happening when the American troops were over here , there could be a lot more coins like that tucked away somewhere ...

Well the story fits perfectly with the time and place. That would only add to its value. I thought it might have something to do with the war. When I was in the UK, I've done a lot of money swapping with the locals too.

Where were you in the UK Paul , visiting / working / I'm guessing you're to young to have been in the war ?

I wasn't there during the war. I was in Rochester, London, Liverpool, Leeds, Stratford on Avon. That was year 1990/91. Had an amazing time.

I haven't got one of these Amy, but like you I gave some old pennies & a variety of different 50p coins including the Beatrice Potter series.🙂

I only have 3 B.Potter coins Ff ,Tom Kitten ,The Tale of Peter Rabbit , Benjamin Bunny , also one of Paddington bear , I don't go out of the way to collect them I just look in my change and save them .. do you have a whole set ?

No, like you I just look for interesting 50ps in my change.
I currently have 7 of the Beatrice Potter series. 2 different Peter R. Mrs Tittlemouse, Jeremy Fisher, Mrs Tiggywinkle, Benjamin Bunny & one simply, Beatrice P. I also have Pad Bear & Sherlock Holmes.

I had no idea there were so many interesting coins in circulation atm!!
