A tropical plant that took 3 years to settle in and finally start blooming. This is one of the slow motion crowd. It took about 1½ months for it to start opening.

The real tropical plants need to be kept above 15°C, which can be difficult outside, here. This is the same size as the Hedychiums it is next to. All are closely related. It was decided to move heliconias into a seperate group from the strelitzias; so they do look very similar and are both subject to strong wind damage, which is why the leaves look ratty.

The hardiest Heliconia on Earth. Nothing else is really close. Great cut flower they say.
