I had it last summer up against a "hot wall" and since its in a pot,I think it was getting too much sun for the roots to keep up with and the foliage sort of blanched last year.
I moved it to a east facing shed wall and you can see the new leaves are more red and larger than last years worn looking foliage.

Thanks Waddy. This more of what its looked like over the years. Last summer was just hard on the plant and seeing it blanch in hot sunny weather told me that this year things had to be changed.
Now,in ground things would be different..but I don't want a 40' tree. This is big enough.

Will you be able to prune it to keep it contained?

It will be. I think I will skip that this year...but next year it will have to be cut back, taken out of the big pot and root pruned and then refilled with fresh soils...good to go for a few more years after that.
One thing about Ficus is..they really take to pruning and pots.

Thanks Waddy. I appreciate that. It's taken a few mistakes to get there!..might not be done with those-ha.

Thanks Kate..it's even improved since i posted this photo.
Pruning is something this will need every couple of years..I just can't keep buying bigger and bigger containers. So,you use Bonsai techniques..root prune, top prune, and use fresh soils.
