Making a good spread now under the birch.

I only prune off the flowers so I don't have any of the really big footballs. I don't prune it harde 'cos I want height rather than large flowers, Rose.

Anget, you are only supposed to prune it in March, so that now, would be next March! You leave the seed heads on to protect the new buds in spring from frost. Saying that, yours looks good anyway! I hope you didn't mind me saying this!

I meant I take the dead flower heads off in March, Rose, and I don't prune the stems hard. So I get smaller flowers (which I want) and a taller plant. Any help gratefully received!
