These are my favorite palms. I wish I can grow them. They are just fantastic trees.

It’s a very tropical palm. San Diego is probably the only place in California where it grows well outside (maybe parts of Los Angeles, also).

It’s a very beautiful palm, but grows very slowly.

That's a fantastic palm to have. Once they get rooted they don't seem to need much watering. Even in a pot I've noticed they are frugal water users. Love as much heat as they can get though. My three are from seed brought from Florida. Once they do start growing in summer, they enjoy palm fertilizer I notice.
When my little ones green up a little more,I'll post the lot of them.

I’ve seen others around San Diego and they all seem like they’re growing in very dry conditions and look good.

I've seen a few in Tampa, Florida that resemble bowling pins - kinda whimsy but makes a strong architectural statement.

I’ve seen some on video in coastal central Florida, but it’s only reliably hardy in south Florida. Unfortunately, its outside growing range is very limited in the contiguous US.

In Hawaii, where I’m from, bottle palms grow everywhere.

I would guess in winter the coldest it see's on average is about 10c nights..and then warm days in the 21c range.
I know I had read that these palms struggle to grow 2 or 3 fronds a summer in socal..then by the end of winter,it's down to one good frond or so..then the cycle starts again. Times have changed and --fast --on the west coast.

Stan,

For most of Southern California it’s probably the case, but in San Diego they tend to look good all year.

Balcony, it’s a very common palm in the tropics.

Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to grow it here in the UK - outside an orangey at least! 😂
