I was intrigued by this photo, Kate, looked up Hoverfly images and it seems this a Helophilus pendulus, sometimes known as the footballer due to the stripes.

Hull is where Kate lives and the local football team are nicknamed the Tigers hence my comment. Yes that was the id i'd decided on.
