Yes but wait until spring because it probably it will be more or less dormant in the cold weather.. When you detach it leave it until the cut area has dried before planting it. Plant it into cactus compost and don't water it until it has rooted.

Just looked at your old photos - you clearly don't need telling this - what a grand collection you have!

Thanks Stera, 'tis true I have many cacti but have lost a lot, due to the harsh winters we've been haveing lately, coupled with the fact that my getup and go has got up and gone with my frosted cacti. Seems I do need telling as I was going to break it off and plant it before I posted it on GoY, Thanks. ( With the rate it is growing it will soon overload the parent stem, seem I'll have to support it)
