Under one of my chestnut trees I have this growing under one of my chestnut trees . It is an offset from a previous Aechmea, and took 4 years for this pup to develop to the flowering stage.

Unless you can get one as a pup and wait several years for it to flower, they are too expensive. Especially knowing this will give more pups, but never give a second flower. I have another Aechmea that a friend wanted, so I kept the pup and gave him the mother plant to see if he could get it to give more pups. My part has rooted and it growing really well. The flowers will last 4-6 months.

Definitely well worth having with such a long flowering period.

I use to have one of these as a houseplant but it sadly died on me. Yours is gorgeous by the way.

The flower has finally died back and I am waiting for pups to form. It grows under a chestnut tree, outside.

Definitely brightens up the shade. Hopefully it produces well for you :)

I saw one of these in the house plant section of a Garden Centre recently ... most unusual plant.
