Do you remember I planted Avocado stones and they grew, well I took the tops out and look at them now.

They took 3 months to sprout from the stone. The blue flowers are recent cuttings I took from the Salvias.

I hope I can keep them going Klahanie. They've been in the garden all summer but now in the conservatory for the winter. I took a deep breath and cut the tops off and they have just sprouted. You have to place the stones the right way up and leave the top showing. Mine cracked open after a long while then the root came out and then a shoot.

Yes I remember that Linda, wonderful that you've had it to grow like this now :)

Thanks SBG. Why not have another. Gerry scratched away the thin outer brown coating then I placed the stones up the right way and showing a little above the compost. It will take anything up to three months to crack open and grow. Just keep it slightly moist. See what happens next....I don't know if I will be able to keep them growing but I shall do my best. In the summer I gave them some feed about once a month and they were in semi shade.

Thanks Shirley. That's a shame SBG. that you lost your plant. Are you going to have another try at growing one.
23 Nov, 2021
probably not as OH wasn't particularly enamoured by it. there are lots of other plants I think I'd rather have to be honest.

We are very lucky today SBG for all the choices we have in plants. It's really lovely to see other gardens on this site and to be able to share photos and chat.

The Haas Avocadoes are now in the grocery. They are quite mild and buttery-delicious. Love them with crab salad or just mashed on pumpernickel toast. Yum! The pits of the haas tend to be smaller and I've never tried to raise a plant. You've inspired me... I may just try for the fun of it.

Thanks Bloomer and Lori. We love Avocados too Lori but I don't know how far I shall get with these two plants. I'll keep on trying to keep them going.
