Part of my aquarium with the red leafed aquarium lily. It does part of the year grow pads..but I prefer the big red submerged leaves- you pinch off stems that go for the surface.
Behind it is an aquatic Alternanthera in red also. This where the aquarium light is best for plants that make color.

Marine aquariums are intense. Not forgiving. I like now the lazy tropical stream look with clear water and small colorful fish darting around. Its nice to see in Winter Hywel. Even California can have long stretches of gloom and wet in winter. It pours! ( remember that old song?)
Red plants in aquariums do stand out. Took me awhile to find the ones that do well.

lovely Stan, I used to keep fish and always went for live plants. I agree with Hywel, the plastic ones are awful, especially when covered in algae.

You have a beautiful aquarium, Stan. As Hywel said, the mix of coloured plants is very effective, especially as they are all real too.

I love aquariums and yours has some nice real plants. So often they are seen with naff plastic ones.
I like the contrast and interest created by the red leaf ones too :)
I used to have a marine aquarium once ...
