Perhaps it should be trimmed after flowering.

Hi meadowland, My grandad always told me that anything that flowers before July gets cut back end July August and anything after that, in November, December.

I really loved my grandparents and spent quite a bit of time with them.

yes if you need to prune it then as soon after the blossom falls. I used to prune mine to keep it in balance with the pot.

I used to have one in a pot but those harsh winters a few years back saw it off sadly.
