Sun flower seed head.

Sun flower seed head. (Helianthus annuus (Sunflower))

It is a major task to deseed all these heads. This one measures 10 inches (just the centre not the petals because they have gone). Thought Jacque would like this for the seed collecting section.

Squirrels in my garden would strip this in seconds.

Good job we don't get squirrels in our garden then.

What some place with no squirrels. How did you manage that?

We have red squirrels in Hungary but they seem to stay in the wooded areas and we don't see them very often.

Wow, it doesn't look as if a single one is missing. What a lovely pattern the seeds are in. Does anybody remember that art contraption where you trace circles in different colors, sizes and positions to make designs? That what this is reminding me of. Or mosiac tile work, lovely.

I remember putting several of these in my garage to dry out...I forgot about them for a couple of weeks, when I went back the mice had all the seeds out....Surprised I didn't see 5 lbs mice that year!
There are squirrels here where I live, but never see them here in teh city...And no rabbits..And no deer... And no, I'm not complaining...:)
