Victoria has confirmed it is a Jersey Tiger moth. Lucky you, not that common yet, often get blown over from the South.
Hope you are able to get it out safely. I use a tumbler and slide a bit of card over the mouth of the tumbler/glass to stop it flying back. Pop it under some leaves on a shrub/honeysuckle/clematis to hopefully stop the birds finding it.
Toria was out checking her moth trap this morning and there were about 15 birds all waiting for them to fly so they could have them for beakfast!

I think that might be a Jersey Tiger moth Meadow. Very nice.
Butterflies usually have their wings held at right angles to heir bodies.
