Helianthus 'Lemon Queen'.

Helianthus 'Lemon Queen'.

I am a sucker for these types of yellow autumn daisies. I wish they grew better in my soil and would love more. This hasn't grown much in all the time I've had it - too dry, I think. Must find it a new home. I have 'Carine' growing on in a pot, but struggle to keep slugs off it.

Really lovely Ange. Shame about the slugs but isn't there a sort of tape you can buy to stick round the pot to stop the slugs and snails...

I muat look into that, Linda!

I had a look on the internet by typing in tape for pots to stop slugs and snails, and there are quite a few to see.

Ange, the clump of this I have is getting smaller and smaller. No idea why, other than it's now in too much shade from neighbour's unpruned Beech tree!

Thanks, Stera.

I think that may be one of the problems with this daisy, Shirley.

Very attractive yellow, Ange. Sherbet lemon…
OH goes out here every night with his torch and his apprentice - Eve, searching for slugs and then sends them flying over the bund and beyond…

How satisfying! It would be interesting to see how many make it back.. they did and experiment once on displaced snails, didn't they??

Ange, we had some heavy rainfall overnight so I shall be interested to see if the 'Lemon Queen' perks up!

I remember the Snail experiment, their shells had numbers painted on them with nail polish, then they were bagged up and set free in some woods a couple of miles away. Amazingly, many of them returned!

If only it were that easy to get rid of them, Shirley..

Crikey…that’s formidable re. The snails! Maybe OH is on a loop every night and our slugs/snails are going round in circles- so to speak 😁

Kate, gather up half a dozen snails, paint their shells with a number in a vivid colour with nail polish, then sit back and wait! :o))
