Pandanus doing well.

I should explain that roots from the pot have moved into the ground. So its kind of funky to see up-close...but should as the years go by look normal.

Is the pot a small one and the plant has outgrown it rapidly, Stan? I'm liking the angle it's growing at..makes it more interesting too.

A 15 gallon nursery pot...usually heavy duty but it was no match for Pandanus ,Kate. Not a fair fight-ha.

I discovered a giant one by my friend’s house here in SD. It’s probably 40 ft (12 m) tall. The house has beautiful mango trees and some gorgeous, very tall Dypsis lutescens.

Its leaves as you know Andy are vicious-ha. No kind of pruning can be done without gloves. When the weather clears,I can prune off old leafstalks and expose the stilt roots and trunk.
We had lots of rain the last three days and a dry out is forecast.

I had 1.65 inches of rain here in just a little more than a day (yesterday and very early this morning). All my water barrels are full. I’m very glad we finally received some very really rains!

It's taken five years to go from slip of a plant to this. I don't think it will ever be a large plant in my lifetime -left. Or,should it get too large sooner,pruning will slow down that growth. It's different.

It’s probably better it stays relatively small you can enjoy it at eye level.

I am pruning the dead lower leaf bases off...razor sharp,and you can see the stilt roots starting. Andy,I have two potted Ficus macrophylla and I do the same thing to them. I don't need a 150 foot wide tree so I pollard them. I grew them from seed too. They've rooted into the ground. Same for Ficus nitida and Ficus rusty leafed fig. Like a row of large Bonsai Ficus.

I took pics of the Pandanus trees and royal palms planted in Balboa Park in 2019. They’re all huge. The largest Pandanus is probably over 15 ft tall now. The Royal palms are pushing 25 ft.

One of the two has started some interesting banyon rootage. I should wrap in moss and plastic and when the roots have filled that remove all that to reveal great nebari ( roots!)
