My Sweetheart litchi tree is putting out flower spikes at the end of every branch. I noticed the growth a few weeks ago. Hopefully, it’ll flower and set some fruit this year! Photo taken January 5, 2023.

Klahanie,
I’m crossing my fingers.

Steragram,
It’s a 5’ air layered ‘Sweetheart’ lychee tree. Air layered trees will produce fruit with 1.5 to 2 years. Lychee trees typically grow slowly, but this one has grown very quickly in last year’s extremely hot, humid summer. I purchased it in June of 2021.

Hoping you’ll have some delicious fruit, Andy. Hope your weather has worsened?

Kate,
Thanks. I hope it bears a few fruits, anyway.
We had a very intense storm here last night, another is on its way for this evening. We’ll get a break for at least 10 days starting on Tuesday. It’ll be back to warm, dry weather.

Fingers crossed!
Andy, we’ve seen the effects of the storms and flooding on the BBC news again today. It’s been traumatic for many hasn’t it! Thank heavens your weather is turning soon!

The weather here hasn’t been too bad. We’ve been getting the much-needed rain. Northern California has had 6 to 9 months worth of rain in the last two weeks. They’ve had major flooding from Santa Barbara north.
