This tree boggles my mind! This 7 ft tall mangosteen has been growing outside in this spot for over a year at the San Diego Zoo. It’s putting out new growth in December. This tree is so ultra tropical it doesn’t even grow in Miami, Florida. Photo taken on Dec. 10, 2023.

Klahanie,
It is a very protected area. This tree really needs a truly tropical climate. Not sure what it’s long term survival is in San Diego, though.

Balcony,
Yes, it’s considered the queen of fruit.
Luckily, there’s several species of Garcinia which can grow here. The big craze is Garcinia humilis (Achacha or Bolivian Mangosteen). I have Achacha and several other Garcinia species. The lemon drop mangosteen (Garcinia intermedia) is pretty easy to grow here (I have two). They all are pretty slow growing.
