Hi Andy, this is a beautiful Hibiscus flower! π I don't think we have this colour in the UK though I've seen plenty of Hibiscus bushes around town here.

Only the tropical Hibiscus species grow here. They grow everywhere. Some of the tropical species can grow 30 to 50 ft (10 to 16 m) tall.

The species here in the UK don't usually grow more than 3-4m.

Most varieties of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis grow to those heights, but some varieties can grow to about 10 m.

I have seen a very old "tree" in Riverside Park here & that's about 3m tall. Probably the tallest I've ever seen.

Iβm guessing itβs a Hibiscus syriacus hybrid? I know that one is very hardy.
Hibiscus tliaceus hybrids are really becoming very popular in California. This species grows into a huge tree to 80 ft (25 m) in the wet tropics, but half that size in coastal California.
