Nice color in mid winter.

It certainly is, Stan. Gorgeous fiery colour, it'd brighten up a corner of my wintry, dreary garden anyday!

Thanks Kate. This might only rate below my Aloe Moonglow for bright color. That one is in bud.

They are in bloom everywhere here. My neighbor has a huge 10 ft Aloe ferox which is flowering now. It’s pretty spectacular!

I also have Aloe marlothii ready to go. Hard to believe it's been a year since the Aloes last peaked.
Hows San Diego"winter" been so far?

It’s been very mild however, it was very chilly this morning, low of 41 degrees. Tomorrow only slightly warmer before it gets back to more normal temperatures again.

Midwinter Stan? You must be joking! :) Beautiful hot colours x

No really Karen we have just past the coldest period of the year. I'm sure there is no more chance of a plant zapping frost from this point on. Not that its warm in the San Francisco bay area in the day,it's the nights now that should be moderate.
Yep,the longer days are kicking in.

There ought to be a better word for the coldest part of the year in sub tropical and tropical places. What should it be? Instead of midwinter? How about ‘The Cooling’, ‘The freshening’ I like The Freshening! 😉 We May get snow here next week!

Stan,

You’re probably correct that in the coming weeks it’ll really be warming up there. It was beautiful and warm here yesterday and the mid-70’s (24 c) will return by Tuesday.

My papaya trees are still growing strong and I suspect my mango tree will bud soon. I see mango trees all over San Diego in bud or flowering right now. It’s a big difference compared to last year.

They say 60 something this week and as much as 65-66f
the week after. With rains! I haven't used a drop of hose water in weeks for the in ground and potted plants.
According to WU our lowest low was 37f at HayX,but I'm sure I was 2-3f colder inland. Still not enough to kill plants growth but enough to thinly ice the windshield two mornings.
I have to take some pics of some plants in bloom.

You’re so lucky. I’ve been watering almost every day here. It’s been so dry here.

It’s been a little chilly at night, but back in the low 50’s for lows in a few days.

My red Plumeria still have a few leaves. Pachypodium lamerei has its leaves and one small flower bud that might just open- or fall off.
So far no winter stress as compared to the usual winter. Hayward X had a 10b winter, while I had a couple of nights below 35f. Maybe next winter I get the coveted ( by me!) 10 b winter..ha.

My big red plumeria has most of its leaves. I’m guessing in the next few weeks it’ll loose all its leaves, though.

Many of my plants are still growing, but probably soon they will be slowing down.

After one night left of 47f,we will have the rest of the month of 48-50's as lows. They (weatherunderground) are predicting the last week of January, Andy, to be near 70f. Ok,I will wait and see on that one.
I was just reading that scientists now think the Greenland ice sheet is actually melting 20% faster than previously thought.
I got to stick with the xeric plants!
