To get here we pass through North Dorset, into Wiltshire and then into Somerset. All within 12 miles of home! It’s on the Stourhead estate. Built as a folly 252 years ago, using 1.2 million bricks, and at a cost of 5 thousand pounds. That’s about a million in today’s money. But no way could we build it for that now…without using any scaffolding! It has survived being crashed into by a plane during WW2 amongst other things. That Man at the top is Scott. I was waiting with the dog! It’s surrounded by a wildflower meadow with orchids etc. and then a woodland which falls away steeply to the south. We can see it on the horizon from our bedroom window.

Shirley he is as fit as a fiddle. He does exercise every day, plays golf, walks the dog and until recently was still playing club racquet sports. The only reason he stopped that was because he was having to drive too far.

Interesting information, Karen. I do love to climb a tower or a castle...or a cathedral!!!!

It looks square, but it only has 3 corners.
