Sherborne Abbey again.

Sherborne Abbey again.

Yesterday the normal September weather returned (thank Goodness), and we had a free afternoon once the house snaggers went away (thank goodness!). So we took ourselves off to Sherborne, which I have to admit, is my favourite nearby Town. We had lunch in the Conservatory at the Castle Garden Centre (A more beautifully displayed and well-stocked GC I have yet to see), which is a lovely place to lunch. Then we went to the Abbey because I wanted to see the Icon of Mary again, and buy some little wooden church mice to play hide and seek with Niamh. Anyway, at the risk of being repetitive, I have been in many beautiful English Churches, but I have never been in a more beautiful one than Sherborne Abbey. It is big enough to be majestic, but small enough to be a true sanctuary. Not only that, but it has the finest ceiling I have ever seen and every detail is treasured and glorious. There is far too much to see, even in two visits. There is currently an exhibition of tapestries on the theme of the Genesis creation story which were magnificent and incredibly beautiful. They are touring the county’s Cathedrals, so if you get the chance, do go and see them. I guarantee you will be thrilled by them. Snagging work has resumed today…..(sigh). Photos to follow…

I do love abbeys, minsters and churches. My parents live in a small town with an Abbey. I always took it for granted as a child.

Lovely pic, Karen.
