Well done Balcony, I'm sure the local people will love them when they flower.

I hope you are right, Lindak!

Great, I expect you’ll gradually build up the level. I hope people do appreciate what you do. I can’t think why your local council don’t plant them, they must be very poor!

Hi FF, I don't think that it's necessarily that our council is poor, at least no worse off than other towns the size of Huntingdon, but the lack of funds probably does affect it. The gardening department is having difficulties in getting the money they need to do the work of looking after the cemeteries, parks, gardens or what have you around town, to find time & money to plant up yet more containers.
About 2 months I ago I wrote them an email explaining what I was doing with the planters around the cash machine & why - but I've had no reply. Therefore I'll continue with what I'm doing!
Just this last week I've been putting in Daffodil bulbs& other plants from the balcony. Today my son brought some used compost from his pots & we dumped it in the last of the 3 to be planted up - which was the first one I planted up with Cosmos seedlings at the end of July this year.
Between my granddaughter & I we pulled up the Cosmos, even though they were still flowering, & dumped the compost on top. If possible I will go out tomorrow & plant the last of the Daffodil bulbs I have & then plant some Pansies plugs over the top of them.

I removed the Geraniums & Fuchsias from this planter & took them home. I had some Primroses on the balcony railings that were just starting to flower but the plants look horrible besides which they won't flower much during the winter & I don't fancy just looking at green rosettes when I could be looking at some colourful Pansies!
I first dug out the plants & dug over the soil while adding some spent compost from the balcony. When the Town Council put the planters around the cash machine they didn't add any more soil. That is why the plants look so low. I've now raised the level a bit more by adding spent compost from the growbags that had tomatoes growing in them on the balcony all summer.
I planted a bag of 30 Daffodils & then overplanted them with the Primroses. Though they are not very good looking plants I think they will still grow & flower in the Spring.
