These bottle palms are growing very well in this curb strip in San Diego, CA. They look like they’ve been there for 3 or 4 years. Photo taken November 13, 2024.

I have posted several pics of this palm on GoY over the years. These trees need water. They would look lusher with regular water.

I thought they didn't look too good!

They do have this type of look here. They don’t carry many fronds, which is typical.

Is that because the location where they are growing is too dry & hot for them?

Many factors: too dry, not enough water. This palm is very tropical, it typically grows best in very hot, humid tropical climates. It does like a lot of sun, although here the most beautiful ones I’ve seen are in afternoon shade.

It appears they can grow as high as 10-20ft high. Pictures I've seen make them look much better than these few! Nevertheless as they grow bigger they will no doubt look much better. The swollen base also becomes longer & no longer resembles a bottle.
