Synsepalum dulcificum - Miracle Fruit Tree

Synsepalum dulcificum - Miracle Fruit Tree (Synsepalum dulcificum - Miracle Fruit Tree)

My little miracle fruit shrub is growing well under the mango tree. It’s in an area that receives compost and loves it! This tree or shrub needs a very low soil ph is why it’s planted here. Photo taken December 31, 2024.

I had to learn more about this plant so Googles it. How interesting to learn that the berry can make sour fruits tastes sweet, no wonder it has it's name!

I also had to so a search for it as I'd never heard of it either!

Why are you growing it under the Mango tree? Wouldn't it remove nutrients from this tree? I can appreciate that it loves the compost you put under the Mango tree.

I should’ve inserted more information on this shrub. It’s a pretty incredible plant!

It’s native to west tropical Africa. It needs very acidic soil in partial shade. It produces the miracle berry that is used a lot for cancer patients. The miraculin in the fruit makes sour foods very sweet for an hour or two.

Balcony, I planted this miracle fruit shrub under the mango tree so it would be patially shaded. It seems to be growing very well in this spot.

Thanks for the extra info, Andy! I read something about it when I looked it up. Wikipedia is such a mine of info on practically anything you can think of!

You’re welcome 😉.

I use wikipedia a lot. Sometimes though, the information isn’t completely accurate.
