Diospyros nigra - Chocolate Pudding Tree or Black Sapote

I Googles this as I've not heard of it before. Fascinating reading about the fruit.

It’s a gorgeous tropical tree which is becoming even more popular here in Southern California.

In the same family as Persimmons. Love those sweet and soft. My wife likes them crunchy and not so sweet. Not cheap at the markets either. If i had the room...ha.

Yes, you’re correct it’s related to persimmon. It has beautiful leaves like a persimmon, but is evergreen and isn’t too hardy. Although, I think it would grow up in the SF Bay Area.
