My tropical chocolate pudding tree seedlings are growing very well now. They’re about a year and half old now. It grows slowly when young, but in the ground after two years can grow extremely fast. Photo taken January 24, 2025.

In the same family as Persimmons. Love those sweet and soft. My wife likes them crunchy and not so sweet. Not cheap at the markets either. If i had the room...ha.

Yes, you’re correct it’s related to persimmon. It has beautiful leaves like a persimmon, but is evergreen and isn’t too hardy. Although, I think it would grow up in the SF Bay Area.
