Ficus umbellata - Umbrella Fig Tree

Ficus umbellata - Umbrella Fig Tree (Ficus umbellata - Umbrella Fig Tree)

Umbrella fig tree is a very popular plant or tree here in the last 5 or 6 years. It’s still pretty darn expensive even though it’s widely sold. This tree was small a few years ago. I think it was planted 6 years ago when this area (Africa Rocks at San Diego Zoo) was finished. It’s a pretty big tropical tree native to West Africa. I would guess 50 or 60 ft would be its maximum height. Photo taken February 2, 2025.

That's quite a big tree & it has grown very fast in a short time!

Most Ficus species grow extremely fast in the ground. Many outgrow their speces very quickly.
