The beautiful dragon tail is growing at the San Diego Zoo. One day it’ll take over this whole area. Photo taken November 3, 2024.

Thanks! I thought it was a beautiful plant. I think it grows very fast once established. It’s kind of like Monstera deliciosa.

The fronds do look very similar to the leaves of a Monstera.

Yes, I originally though it was a species of Monstera.
I think it may have been in that genus at one time…or Philodendron.

I bought one at the Berkeley botanical garden. Long story short,I left it behind thinking it was too tropical for outdoors. At least i should have tried a cutting. Live and learn I guess.

Stan,
This is a USDA zone 9a plant, according to what I’ve read. It would easily grow where you live.

I left it in the greenhouse where i worked because i was sure it would die if i put it outdoors then years later i saw photos of it thriving outdoors in SoCal gardens.

Stan,
I think it’s a 10 a and above outdoor plant, but I would guess it’s as hardy as Monstera deliciosa.
