This is one plant you do not want to fall into! It protects itself with thick, sharp, thorns. All the "buds" you see are the beginnings of prickly pears.

Oh, I love it! And all those fruits. I would be so pleased if this were what I have, but I believe mine is a bit smaller. :-)
