I've never grown one from seed but I have started new plants by bending a stem over so that the top (umbrella) is just under water and soon the umbrella will start to grow roots. When the roots are long enough I snip the stem and pot the new plant.

I believe this is the same plant that I grew as a houseplant in the bathroom of my flat back in the seventies. It seemed very happy there.
