I think this is the caterpillar of the white lined sphinx moth. They can be extremely varied with black, yellow, red or green colors dominate. But for your area this looks correct, the larvae feed on a wide variety of plants inc. willow, apple, elm, tomato, purslane, grape and fuschia.
