I love these firs, I have some in my garden and they're quite hardy and such a lovely bright green in the depth of Winter.

Hi Janey, no, firs is not short for conifers, firs are a common collective name for the species Abies, which are of course conifers. the photo is likely to be 'Wima' which is recent years has surpassed 'Goldcrest' for use in containers because of its narrow habit.

Thanks Bluespruce, I stand corrected. The ones I have are Goldcrest which I bought whilst shopping in Morrisons last year, amazing what you can buy in your local supermarket!
