These guys are troopers! Yes, this is time, takes about 16 hrs of sunlight or more to stay warm, and we're down to 12 with fall equinox. This morning was all hard white frost, snow in the forecast. These pelargoniums end up scarlet clouds frozen in time out there. :-) I don't mind, I'll have to do some indoor photo posting to share how I pass the winter....

Fuel bills are extortionate here in the UK, is it the same over there to keep warm? I pray it is not, with such long winters.

The same, and here diesel heating is standard. We got some government assistance. I'm using more electric so the fuel doesn't go as quickly. I've little radiator that regulates well. Everythings on -40F. :-)

brrrr.... brings back some bad memories...GreenT... like starting up the van (a miracle!) and driving down the icy street on tires that seemed frozen flat on one side... (Fred Flintstone, style!) and sitting on foam carseats that were frozen to solid benches!!
found my dog on one such morning...she was probably just six weeks old...on her own in the middle of town...minus 47degrees Centigrade...half frozen and almost starved...she lucked out that horrible morning...she found a home...that's why she's such a spoiled baby! Minus 40 degrees is damn cold on any scale!! The record, (at least the coldest I can recall hearing of, was minus 62...with the windchill factor, recorded by the weather station on the roof of the highschool where my husband taught).just a nice Canadian winter day!!

It's cold yes. Anything happening is a miracle. There a fog where there is no fog. What a fantastic story about your dog. I haven't been witness to -60 yet, but I've been close.

Wow, this is amazing and depressing at the same time, as it is so early
after summer to see frost already. I guess, this is what it is like in Alaska.
