Do you mean planta genesta? ginestra? the symbol of the Plantagenets? Did your family come from South West France, by any chance? sorry to be so silly...just couldn't resist.

No Lori my mum used to call it ginestra and it reminded her of home (she was Italian) - I've looked it up and it's called spartium junceum and grows on rocky ground - it had litlle yellow flowers and had a very sweet smell. Despite the harsh UK climate it grew well for years and took pride of place in our back garden (do you know Lori that bush died a few months after she did)

Oh my! What can be said? It grew in foreign soil for love of her... to keep her company. How sweet... and a little sad, I think.

I'm sorry Lori but the penny has just dropped re your clever pun - I think my brain was in fogland yesterday !! or perhaps I was just remembering my mum - do you think that plants can REALLY feel that someone loves them?? I remember that she wouldn't let either my sister or I anywhere near it in case we hurt it - it grew so much that she even moved her washing line so that the drying sheets/lwashing wouldn't waft on its branches .....

Ah... for all the wisdom in the world...I don't think I could tell you...but love is an amazing force.

Oh Lori, dahlias always make me think of my poor old mum - she always had them growing in her garden in England, amidst her lilly of the valley, lupins and her ginestra that she brought back from Italy .....
