Hello Jacque, this shrub is wonderfully self supporting now, I have trained it up direct over 14 years and keep trimming non flowering growth. I think people let the branches grow too long. Mind the thorns, they can go down to the bone.

Wonderful plant, Ams.
I love the red berried pyracantha. I bought one to grow n my last garden but it had been wrongly labelled and produced orange berries.
I was chuffed to bits to find the red one already well established in my current garden although it had been allowed to grow as a tree rather than being trained against the wall.
They knock spots off cotoneaster in my opinion, they produce a much better show twice a year with their blossom and berries.

Hello Xela, I am glad you are a fan of large shrubs, they seem to be the poor relation but earn their place in the garden.

We have one of these growing in a pot in the corner of a trellis. It's about 2 and a half feet tall at the moment and very heavily berried. It's its' first year and we're thrilled to bits with it. Lovely to see your's looking so healthy. Am assuming the pot will restrict the growth a bit.

This plant is seldom watered despite some drought ridden summers in Cambs, laughs at winter gales and provides an essential larder for blackbirds over winter.
