No, I am not admitting to pyromanic tendencies! lol....the bricks are just down on a trial basis...but I think I will go with this... the area between the pit bricks and the wall bricks will be filled with pea gravel...

Love the fire pit. I have a portable copper one, that I must admit did not get used this year.
Yours looks fantastic.
Look forward to see the finished pics.

Hahaha . ...that's it for sure, Skippy!... thanks for the kind comments, all. it was lovely to sit there and enjoy a twig fire...it didn't last long..but it will be fun to have a nice log fire one evening soon. then, we'll roast weenies, and toast marshmallows and maybe even make some S'mores, and our front sides will be toasty and our other sides will be chilly... lotsa FUN!

How is it going Lori, have you been able to get on with it?

I would love to go out to finish...but it's been raining so much lately that it's hard to get a days work in...yet I should admit to some procrastination...my knees are talking back! and I've learned that when they talk I should listen. going to buy some of the strap on knee pads that flooring contractors use...also find that the bags of pea gravel are just too heavy to manage.

Love the fire pit - it reminds me of the sun's rays! Sort of an ancient religious look to it!

Thanks Rossmiller... It has come full circle.,... I removed the firepit early this spring...after burning off all my dry prunings. getting rid of it was a good thing... It was probably too close to the house to have a roaring blaze and I tried to just make a small fire each time... I have dust allergies and found that the smoke caused my asthma to act up... we are planning to sell and it had to go...but I still have a portable steel bowl one. I agree, I love a nice fire on a cool evening and will miss it..
At least I had the opportunity to experience a firepit... it was great...I've put the bricks to good use in a small patio... and although I like pea gravel on the walkways....I find it disappears needs to be weeded frequently and it's heavy hard work for a retired person!

that looks so cool - nice job

Thanks Paulsgarden! We have just sold our house but I removed the firepit this spring...it served it's purpose as I was able to burn off a lot of the prunings from my trees and shrubs and didn't have to contribute to the landfill! I have some thoughts about the firepit in my next garden will look like...I'm finding that moving on and starting another project is a lot more fun than I had expected!

Unfortunately our garden is a little too small for one - well we did have one but I got a tad pyromaniac and put everything in (accidently a carrier bag) - next door neighbour thought my garden shed was on fire

I love the bricks you have around it as well
6 Nov, 2010
LOL... must have caused the neighbour a few gray hairs, aye? I found the bricks at a brick wholesaler...they sell mostly to contractors and landscapers but they have an area at the back of their shop for odds and ends and leftovers from special order jobs.... I got patio pavers 6 x 6 x 2 for fifty cents a piece.

very nice - I think you've done a great job
