A Japanese willow. Bought as a naked stick at Morrisons for £1.50 last May.

Could be called that. It's a recycled plastic dustbin. I have 4 of them on different drainpipes including the one on the greenhouse. Keeps the sarracenias in rain water even in drought. This one will be disguised by putting a rockery round it eventually.

Whoops. Sorry that is a scarlet willow. I have a couple of Japanese willows (Salixes) that I will post pictures of. On another forum I was known for my cheap attitude. I bought the 2 at Wilko's at 50p each reduced from £8.99 each. Wilko's are great. They never water their plants and then give them away when they lose all their leaves. Recession? What recession?

Will have to visit my local Wilko, haven't been for ages but if they can't look after their plants then I can.
My son works part time at a garden centre and sometimes their plants look terribly looked after.

You've just missed the best time of year Sal for bargains. Mid-summer to late September. They wind down the gardening section now for hallowe'en and then Christmas. Still it is definitely worth looking in from spring onwards. Thanks for reminding me to picture the salixes (now both well on the way to recovery by the way).

The black container at the base of the drainpipe.
Is that a small water butt?
