Is it tall - if it is, it's Verbena bonariensis and don't cut it back until the spring to allow the seeds to fall. Some people find that it disappears suddenly, so once it gets going, take cuttings in late summer - it's worth it.

i never cut plants down i am a scruffy garden owner and a scruffy owner.anything that grows in there stays in there.it all becomes a muclch and fertiliser.chances are if i made it tidy people would through rubbish in it.its i guess about 30" tall maybe.thanx for your help and have a great week end
