The trunk has many colors - mauve, cream, different shades of green, tan. The leave are very glossy.

The colorful bark on this tree is the main reason why it is grown.

It is a shame. Although, I have seen how quickly these trees grow...from 4 foot tree to 25 feet in two to three years even in my dry climate. I can't imagine how quickly they would grow in the wet tropics.
I have seen many very large trees in Hilo, Hawaii...which receives over 100 inches (254+ cm) of rain a year.
