He blends in pretty well! What kind is he? We only get the garter snakes here, but there are areas nearby with massasauga rattlers, which I do not care to encounter...

I wouldn't care to encounter any rattlers either, lol. This guy is harmless, well, as far as venom goes anyway... he about gave me a heartattack ! It's called a Rough Green snake, opheodrys aestivus. I just call him, 'lucky to still be alive' snake !

Aaagh. Not the sort of visitor you want to find. What does it prey upon?

wow great photo FL, thanks for being brave enough to keep the camera steady lol

He is a magnificent color and your detail is great...I don't mind snakes as long as they are the harmless kind. My problem is I have to look it up on the internet before I know it is harmless....by then it is long gone...

Luckily I didn't have the camera on me when I went eye to eye with this little devil, I was weeding at the time. Took about 2 minutes for me to get myself together, and think about taking a pic of him, instead of taking a 'pick' to him..lol I don't really mind snakes too much either Skippy if, and that's a big 'IF', I get to see them a long time before they get to see me !

Always startling to find, we had many a rattler in Idaho where I grew up. This one is a beautiful color and seems rather intelligently looking on. We don't have snakes here in Alaska at all. I'd have gone white and passed out I think.

Chrispook, he'll feed on anything alive that he can fit into his mouth. Mostly insects, but an occasional small rodent would be his favorite !
lol..., GT, been there, done that...!

Coming across him would have meant the end of any weeding for me. I guess it's better to come across him than to have him come across you!!

i wish that this little fella was in my garden :) i love snakes :)

Pretty, but I'm a little skittish unless I know it's harmless.

nice pic, doesn't he blend in well

Okay Sandygrove, how about I ship you a nice big sidewinder?? Or maybe a diamond back rattler or two?

Oh that's a little beauty! He looks harmless. Love his colours..wow. Another great pic!!
Haha ...GG...now don't go trying to scare the girl!! Some folk like herps for pets...but I would find it hard to feed them live mice...somehow I'd prefer something the size of this little green guy. I do agree with you about rattle snakes...I'm thankful I live out of their range...guess you have to be really careful about rock gardens in Arizona?

My daughter's best friend found herself homeless and jobless not long ago, so she is staying with us for a while but I'm afraid I couldn't offer the same hospitality to her pet snake. He is staying with another of their friends, but from time to time I am warned that his supper is in the bottom of my fridge. Bad enough having the live mice move in when it gets cold, but dead mice ?!?! Stan, the snake is welcome to them.

Hate to hear about your daughter' s friend Xela. Things are really getting rough around here where I live too. My work is very slow this last quarter. I believe it's starting to get scary everywhere.
I'm with you all the way about not having a snake in the house. You have to draw the line somewhere, and that sounds like a great place to start...lol.

Oh, what a nice lil green fella you have there, and come on, you can be the owner of your garden, but thats HIS enviroment so, be nice and stand your limits right there where beggins his own :o)
By the way we are plenty of snakes here, all types and... sizes ....if someone fancy one ... hehee (I'm too bad today... sure you all will forgive me!)

Lol..., Aleyna you go right ahead and be as bad as you like..haha, I like your colorful sense of humor.

Wow, 1st time on the site, and your photos are incredible, I'll have to come back and visit this site again someday. Nice of you to share.

(I also have rattlers here in Central Washington, but they are really not aggressive, and very pretty (in a way), light greenish tint to some of the fatter ones, unlike most 'western rattlesnakes'.
And especially pretty as a hat band, used to be a hobby of mine 20-30 years back, rattlesnake hatbands, I thought mine were special because mine have the head and tail still attached, and not gaudy. They made great Xmas gifts for the folks who 'had everything'.
I'd trade them all for your green ones lol, It is so dry here that in the snaky areas anything green would surely stand out!
