Wallichia disticha - Wallich's Palm

Wallichia disticha - Wallich's Palm (Wallichia disticha - Wallich's Palm)

This is not too common a palm. This palm is two block from my house. It grows as a flat plane like the traveler's palm ( Ravenala madagascariensis). This palm is monocarpic which means after it flowers it will die.

I looked up this tree.
Says it requires abundant water.
Maybe that's why it isn't seen too often?
I wonder how long before the tree matures and flowers.

Marguerite, this tree grows very slowly here...it will usually take from 25 to 40 years before they will bloom and die. It can grow up to 25 feet tall before it will bloom. Also, it is actually a very hardy Palm even at a young age...tolerating temperature as low as 24 degrees without damage.

It is zoned for 9b - 11. They do need heat to grow well though.
