Alocasia 'Borneo Giant'

Alocasia 'Borneo Giant' (Alocasia 'Borneo Giant')

This is one large Alocasia! It will grow to 18 feet tall. These were located in shade on the grounds of San Diego State University. These were around 10 feet tall and didn't show any trunk yet. The trunks usually will grow to around 12 feet... although, I have seen trunks on these plants to 25+ feet tall at Ho'omaluhia Gardens in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii.

These plants are still babies.

Would the leaves be pruned on this baby Alocasia, as it grows, to achieve the desired shape, or would it be allowed to just grow independently ? [ Into a very large teenager Lol ]

The old leaves naturally die and are pruned as the new leaves quickly grow.
Most Alocasia species grow very, very quickly...especially if they receive plenty of water.
