Brahea edulis - Guadalupe Palm

Brahea edulis - Guadalupe Palm (Brahea edulis - Guadalupe Palm)

This fan palm is native to a small Island of Baja California called Guadelupe Island. It is a very hardy palm that is grown all over the lower and even foothills of California. This palm has survived temperatures below 18 degrees F. (-7.7 degrees C.)

Unfortunately, the youngest trees on Guadelupe Island are over 150 years old because goats eat all the sweet fruit.

I can't say I've noticed such big clouds in any of your other photos. Do you have some rain at times ?

Terratoonie, you're welcome.

Hywel, the clouds are common morning clouds in Spring. Our saying in San Diego is: "May Gray and June Gloom then July you Fry". This means in Spring we have morning clouds that break up around 9:00 a.m. here and can linger at the coast. Then in July through the end of September we get pretty hot and humid weather(Monsoonal Season)...then we get into San Ana Winds/Rainy season, they over lap. The Santa Winds are super hot/dry winds...this is also very high fire season. We are having Santa Ana conditions as I write this...today the temperature will be around 92 degrees F (33 degrees C) where I live with less then 10% humidity.

Marguerite,

In late Spring and Summer we get pretty humid, Santa Ana Winds are very dry winds that blow from the deserts to the coast. By the time the winds flow off the mountains the air has compressed, heated and drained of all moisture in the air. This is our worst time of the year for fires. In fact, Los Angeles / San Diego counties have been having big fires the last two day.

You may want to google "Santa Ana Winds"...it is an amazing weather phenomenon. (not good for plants or people though)

Some Jacarandas are in their late Summer/Fall Bloom which isn't as profuse as the Spring Bloom. This picture was taken in Spring.
